Wordpress Plugins

Wordpress plugins will enhance your wordpress blog and make help the search engines find your blog.

One major caution about plugins and making changes to your blog:

Install one plug in at a time and check to see if all the functions are working. Incompatibilities sometimes occur because wordpress keeps coming out with new versions and the plugins can't keep up. You may also have compatibility issues with certain themes and plugins so just do one thing at a time and make sure everything is working. That way you can deactivate the plugin and try another one or wait for a new version.Plugins are what you use to get your site found and to customize your blog. The plugins are free to download and use.

There are a few plugins that I highly recommend.

Download and install plugins:

Google Site map Generator - This plugin generates an xml sitemap for your site so that you can submit it to the search engines.

Regular Site Map Plug - This creates a regular site map with links to all of your pages and posts. You need this also to attract search engines.

Adman - - Let’s you ad your Adsense ads to each post automatically.

SEO Pack - This creates metatags, descriptions and keywords for your blog so it can get found by the search engines. After you write you post there is a section to fill in your meta tags. (Meta tags are what the search engines look for. Your title of your post will be the same as your description and the first keyword will be the same main word in your description.)

Some other ones to consider are:Yet another related posts - automatically adds related posts after your post.

Akismet - http://akismet.com/download/ This one is usually already preloaded into the plugins. It is a spam protector and you should activate it first thing. I get about 20 spams a day compared to about one real post a week or so. Once you activate it you can also add words to the spam list by going to a list online and copying and pasting them into akismet.Sociable for adding social bookmarking sites to your blog. (I don't have a full understanding of social bookmarking yet, but it is something that I learned about from Site Build it! so I am joining the bandwagon till I hear otherwise!

The latest version of Wordpress just made adding plugins to your blog so much easier. Just go to your dashboard and go to the plugin section and lick on "add new" and it takes you to a section where you can just pick and choose your plugins. The only thing to watch for is that some are not updated for the new version of Wordpress. Most of the popular plugins are updated though.

The Wordpress Plugins are activated in the plugins on the dashboard and are controlled in the options section of the dashboard usually, unless otherwise specified. There are directions for all of the plugins and themes. There are also many other plugins you can find in the plugin directory at wordpress.org
