On Squidoo - Making money using Squidoo

Are you on Squidoo.com? I just discovered how fun squidoo is. I created a lens about a year ago and then never did anything with it but after joining the Wealthy Affiliate Program where I saw it being recommended as a way to promote your website and to also make additional money it caught my attention again.

Squidoo is an easy way to make a mini-website about anything. I won't go into the details of making a squidoo lens as it is called because you can basically learn as you go and just try some things. The best way to do it is to actually follow the Site Build it! model of creating pages that are optimized for search engines. (I have the basic outline and concepts on my other site for massage therapists at www.thebodyworker.com

You can create lenses on any topic really but the key to making money is to write about topics and find or promote affiliate products through your squidoo lens. The lens itself will make you money when you get a decent amount of traffic.

To get traffic to your squidoo lens you also need to do some work linking and creating networks. Everything seems to be connected these days through twitter.com

Here are some of my tips so far on squidoo lenses:- Create a title for the lens using keywords and use the keywords in the first title module and the first sentence of the module. Create a link in the first module using the keyword.- Join some Squidoo Groups and become fans of lensmasters to track what they are doing and learn.- Join the forums and ask questions and read and use your bio link in your signature.- Add your rss feed to your lens (if you have a website or blog that has a feed.)

Update on Squidoo 3/07/09: I have been playing around with squidoo for the past few months and haven't seen any traffic going to the lenses. You really have to do a lot of work to get them indexed by the Search engines and post in their forums and groups to get other squidooers to your lens. It is much more effective to just create a website or blog where you can actually submit an xml sitemap to the search engines. You can also just use article marketing and do the same thing. I can get an article, webpage or blog post indexed and to the top of the search engine for most long tail keyword phrases within a week or even a day or two but still have not gotten found by the SE with a squidoo lens (except for one lens I created over a year ago.) If you create your own website or blog you also get to keep all of the profits rather than sharing it with squidoo.com. Using affiliate marketing you can also make a substantial income.
