Finding Your Passion

Finding your passion can be a scary thing especially since so often we wake up at some point in our lives and discover we haven't been living the life we would like to be living. Work becomes this thing we do just to pay the bills and hopefully retire someday. Somewhere along the lines we have forgotten what it is to be passionate about something we do or we get caught in jobs and careers where we are passionate, but the demands of the work sap the life out of us.

Creating Passionate work never crossed our minds back in college. We just wanted to get work period. I once met a guy who said that he never realized that you were supposed to be happy at work or even thought about it before.

Why would you want to spend half of your life doing something you dislike or that makes you unhappy?

Finding Your Passion is a process of really looking into your self and becoming aware of your feelings. Often we get caught up in our lives we forget about what we were passionate about and get on the road of making a living the old 9-5 way.

But there can be a better way, following your passion.

What is it that you love doing or talking about?

What lights up your eyes when you think about it or talk about it?

How do you want to be talked about at your funeral? Do you want to be known as the person who always worked more?

If you are having a hard time answering those questions and are even saying " I don't have anything that I am passionate about" it will just take you some time and brainstorming to unlock your dreams. Most people stop dreaming at around age 10 or so. We become so accustomed to taking the path of least resistance and playing it safe rather than reaching for our dreams because of critical parents, teachers, families and friends. They become that little voice in your head that says "I can't do that". The thing is that little voice is wrong. Left unchallenged it will rule your life.

What you have in your life is what you are comfortable with. Everything you desire or dream about is outside your comfort zone. What keeps you in your comfort zone is your fear that comes from those thoughts that just aren't true.
