Debt Management

Most debt management programs will begin with looking at how to consolidate your debts into easier payments or will help you look at what you need to do to get out of debt.

One of the reasons why you are in debt is because you are not aware of your relationship with money - you don't have one in fact. Debt is just like any of the other life struggles like weight management, drug addictions or other addictions where the cause of being in debt isn't really about money just like weight loss isn't about food or going on a diet.

Your core beliefs determine your actions. Money is something that touches everyones lives. Money is where we project all of our unmet needs and supressed/repressed emotions.

Becoming more conscious of your relationship with money begins with tracking your money. Track everything that comes in and goes out. Tracking can help you to discover what is going wrong and what your beliefs about money really are.

Once you get some ideas about your relationship with money it will be easier to start managing your money and learning debt management methods.

The first thing you have to do is to stop going into debt! The only way you can do that is to start saving a little money each month into a separate savings account to have a emergency fund. It will take a year or so to probably get enough money depending on how much you put into it. Start with $20 and keep increasing it each month. Once you get enough in that account you can stop going into debt. That will also create a sense of accomplishment and security that you can build on. As you get more in that savings you can stop going into debt and start earning more money to make up for the difference in what you make and what you spend.
