Beliefs about Work

Somehow most people have come to have certain beliefs about work - that work is just something you have to do, that work will not be fun, that you shouldn't enjoy what you do or that work needs to be hard. And how did the idea of an 8 hour work day ever get started - who said that every job could be done in 8 hour shifts? Who even started the concept that work is work?

I for one have never been a big fan of work. It's too hard - with too many games to play. How many people want to be remembered at their funeral as "the person who did the most work" or "the person who worked the most hours"?

Our beliefs about work are no longer serving life for the most part. When you start thinking about just what it is that you would love to do or what you dreamed about doing as a kid it is often met with so much resistance

- I can't make a living doing that.
- I don't have anything of value to offer others
- I don't have the energy to do much else after a day/week at work.

When you stop and think about it - how did you get your belief about what work should be like?

You may also be thinking that you don't have any so called 'beliefs about work'. If you don't know what you believe - just take a look at what you have in your life, in your work. Take a few minutes and start guessing what someone would have to believe to have what you have in your life.

So often we are really looking for work to fulfill some part of us that aches for attention and nurturing. We stay in dead end, abusive jobs searching for or waiting for someone to rescue us from ourselves.

The news is - no one is coming. The boss is not your father no matter how much he may act like it!

But you can take the steps to start taking responsibility for your happiness and start creating the work that you love and that will sustain and even nourish you.

The idea of work is evolving everyday, with more people opting to work at home and honor what they value most- family and their time with them. So many people are always saying that their family comes first and then they go and work 70 hours a week. Working out of integrity with what you value is stressful.

Work doesn't have to be work anymore. You can take what you know and create websites, ebooks and other products that support your values while making you the money that you need to support your family and self.

I work at home 3 days a week writing for my websites and various projects. Even though there is a lot to learn and there is always something to figure out it has never for one moment ever felt like work.

Finding something that creates that feeling of aliveness is what people are following more and more these days.

There are three words that can help you find that for yourself and help you create it no matter what your background, interests or writing abilities.
